It’s been a while since anyone’s last heard from PastelPink Productions, hasn’t it? ami posted that teaser a long while back but we’ve far developed since then! If you’ve made your judgments on Heartsong based on that single teaser, then are sorely mistaken—the final product will be much more polished!
As you all know, Heartsong is a visual novel, combining the aspects of art and writing to tell a story. This is a first in the SNSD fandom and we, PastelPink Productions, have set high expectations for ourselves as we work hard to produce and deliver the best product. We do, after all, have some of the best in the international fandom! Every member is working out of their own time, contributing as much and as best as they can without pay. Being a PastelPink Productions member is completely voluntary!
But I digress. Heartsong is still in its early stages right now and only recently have we started making some progress on the art aspect of our visual novel. We’ve come a long way—a lot of trial and error and disagreements—but we are getting there and things are looking up.
First of all, our primary concern with the art was making it consistent: colors, style, proportions, everything! Having many artists in the team was going to make this difficult, but we figured that by assigning certain art-related jobs to each artist, we could get some organization in our work to make things easier. In the beginning we had very few artists, but once we enlisted omegafu/tobi into our ranks, we were very excited. He is our base model artist, drawing the nudes of each character so that they are later clothed, lined, and colored.
In the beginning, our art was a little rough, as shown below. The lines were quite thick and the coloring was rather flat.

After some deliberation, Endymion decided that our dear Jessica Jung here needed some color, some shine, some life! So, our colorist Key immediately took to the task and conjured something, as shown below.

But in the end, Endymion was still unsatisfied and tobi had this problem with Jessica’s hands—they were “man hands” he said, and after some discussion, we decided we had to change some things around. This change is most apparent in Tiffany, as shown below.

Beautiful, ain’t she? The coloring has improved immensely! But still, something was just not right. It seemed slightly rough for our tastes, still. Now, it took quite a while before we could settle on a final product. We did a lot of re-colors, re-draws, and re-lines before we were satisfied. PastelPink Productions possesses some of the most talented S♥NEs out there and we simply couldn’t throw out shoddy work for the first SNSD visual novel.
After a lot of work and decision-making, we have what seems to be our final product (so far), shown below.

Impressive, isn’t it? The lines are crisp and clean and the coloring is much improved. Can you recognize who’s who? The art is quite accurate to the girls themselves, if I do say so myself. Please anticipate Heartsong in the future! Follow this blog if you haven’t already! Keep yourselves updated!
Thanks for reading and checking out the blog. Stay tuned for more updates (game and developer-wise) in the future.
